New restaurant shakes up burger scene

Mooyah, an international franchise offering a variety of burgers, shakes and fries, recently opened a restaurant in Garwood Plaza on North Ave.

The restaurant is spacious and clean with an overall pleasant atmosphere. The employees add to the positive environment, as they are friendly and enthusiastic.

“The french fries and vegetables are cut fresh every day,” said director of operations Chris Fox. “The meat is never frozen and buns are cooked fresh in order to build a better-for-you burger.”

The attention to quality and freshness shows. The delicious grilled Cheeseburger Combo, which sells for $9.19 and includes fries and a drink, is just the right combination of tender and juicy.

Mooyah is unique thanks to the numerous customization options that allow customers to design their burgers. Customers have the choice of five different cheeses, 12 different sauces and nine other toppings including relish, tomatoes, mushrooms and jalapenos.

“The customization options result in over one million different possible combinations for the burger,” said Fox, a claim used in promotional materials.

The delicious shakes are also hand-crafted and made with 100 percent real ice cream.

A shake can also be ordered for an additional $3.50 to $5.00 depending on size. Shakes come in 10 flavors, such as Oreo, banana and Reese’s, and include a choice of 10 different toppings such as Oreo crumbles and cookie dough.

Though Mooyah serves juicy burgers and salty fries, healthy options are also available. A Black Bean Veggie Burger Combo or a Turkey Burger Combo can be ordered for $9.19.

Mooyah also makes an effort to help customers with gluten intolerance. They provide various gluten free options such as patties wrapped in iceberg lettuce and a variety of gluten-free seasonings, sauces, and toppings.

“I prefer Mooyah burgers over others because they not only taste better, but are also healthier,” said senior Alec Rodriguez.

The ground beef patties have 233 calories and 18.5 grams of fat while the buns have 200 calories and 4.5 grams of fat.

The restaurant offers a variety of ways for customers to order, such as online takeout or in-store to-go orders for those in a rush.
